Installing Oracle r12: Oracle Installed?

July 17, 2009 Leave a comment

The following i386 packages are not part of the OS distribution media and must be downloaded separately (from http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/files/Enterprise_Linux for both OEL 5 and RHEL 5) and installed manually:

  • openmotif21-2.1.30-11.EL5.i3861
  • xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386
  • binutils-2.17.50.0.6-6.0.1.i3862

The Openmotif RPM gave an error:  libXp.so.6 is needed by openmotif-2.1.30-11.EL5.i386

I guess when I installed Linux that RPM was never installed.  That RPM is located on the Oracle Enterprise Linux CD 3, /Server/libXp-1.0.0-8.1.el5.i386.rpm

Installing Oracle in Windows Server 2003 has not been easy thus far. After all my tests passed last time, I started the instillation. To my udder shock, and amazement, the install FAILED again! Actually I was not too terribly shocked. I expected it really.
